tuesday's true confession: will i ever hang those pictures?

Alright . . . here's the deal . . . this week I've seen this:

and this:

and this:

And every time I see amazing creations like these, I think to myself:

I want to make something like that.

What cool photo wall collage can I come up with?

I need to do some decor crafts.

Here's the deal . . . I won't and I can't.

As we established last Friday, I confess that I do not have an eye for pretty when it comes to decorating.

I've tried . . . I've tried very hard to take my quirky, eclectic style and showcase it in a room, but it usually turns out hideous and clown-like.  (I really don't want to raise my children in a circus-like atmosphere because personally I think clowns are kind of freaky . . . not funny!)

I read some great bloggers who have some amazingly decorated homes, and the only way I will ever get a home to look like that is if Stephanie Lynn herself comes and lives with me . . . hmm . . . now that's I good idea.  I wonder if she would do that . . . maybe if I asked really nice and said "pretty please."
So I confess that my creating and crafting skills are pretty much limited to stuff for my kids.  I can't think of cool things like world map balls, painted family trees and recycled sunburst mirrors.  I want to . . . I totally envy those that can, but it's not going to happen.  I don't know what colors look good together or what furniture to put where.  In fact . . . wait for it . . . I still have pictures leaning up against the wall where I THINK I MIGHT hang them some day . . . and we've lived in our house for SEVEN years.  Now, that's embarrassing!

The sooner I learn to accept that and embrace the fact that I'm a one-trick pony when it comes to the crafting world, the better off I'll be.

So . . . I'm over it (I'm not really) . . . I give up (I don't really) . . . I'm sticking with kids' stuff (I probably won't).

How about you . . . what's your crafting niche?  Kid's stuff? Decor? Sewing?Quilting? Scrapbooking?  Do you find yourself looking at the crafting skills of others and wishing you had those skills?

Confess on!

I'm in the same boat my friend...I am currently trying my hand at decorating again...It's slow but we've been here 3 years now, and I'm getting bored with bare walls...Im just trying to take risks and hope it works out...I totally know what you mean!

I, too, drool over the decorating blogs. I have no idea how to put it all together. My idea of re-decorating is to move the furniture around the room in hopes of it magically turning into a catalog-worthy room. :o) Hang in there!

I'm totally opposite- way more comfortable with home decor than crafting! But I'm definitely no Stephanie Lynn!

well, I think it's impossible to play all the instruments: you can play one or two or even three but all it's impossible!
so i'm happy with what i can do and try not to worry with what I can't do (cooking, home decor, cleaning...)

I am just like you. I just have no since of style. I have lived in my house almost 9 years and my bedroom walls are still bare and I have no curtains up. I want to decorate but I just don't know how to get past the hideously hunter green carpet and I can't afford to replace it.

Haha, I love you Elizabeth! We are so alike in just one more way apparently. We have lived in our apartment for over a year and I have hung not a single thing on the walls because I just can't decide where to put them, especially since I feel like our 70's split-level has strange wall spaces and nooks. Or maybe I want to repaint that shelf... or those frames... but what color? So all of the cute frames and decorations sit in a laundry basket in my front closet, waiting. I dusted them off last week...

I was just thinking, I really need to create something to go on the MASSIVE blank wall above my bed. We've been in our house 2 years with nothing.

Oh and Kelly, up there. I feel you. I lived with bright red carpet for 8 years. Gross.

I am secretly hoping that my sister will decorate my next house. She graduates with an interior design degree in May!

I can decorate and do some crafts, but I can't sew! There are so many things I could do if I would only learn how, but it's just one of those things that I just can't make myself take the time to learn. I admire others who can :)

I know what I like. I know what looks good. I know sorta what I want my house to look like. My problem is that I am not creative enough to accomplish it. If I see something I like then I could totally find a way to duplicate it or alter it to my style. But I just can not do it myself. :( Yes, I too have decorator envy. And sewing envy. And creator envy. This list could go on. I'm off to make myself chipper with some chocolate now...

I kind of feel decorating deficient. I like so many different styles and colors. So I end up either mishmashing stuff together, or trying to avoid that and leaving things too plain. I guess I'm not to good at the middle ground. :) Though I guess it's ok to be good at some things and not at others. Not that I will stop trying to figure the whole thing out haha.

I've never been much of a decorater either...partly because I don't feel like I have much sense of style...and partly because we've been on such a tight budget...and partly we've lived in such tiny places that there wasn't room for extra just decor stuff. I'm trying now though, starting with the kitchen. I did the little red shelf. Today I mod podged the cooking utensils container. I've also painted a bowl red...we'll see how things come together in the end.

And we only have about 3 things on our walls and the rest are still in a box in the garage. My excuse is that hubby is never here to help me make sure they're straight. His schedule will lighten up a lot after Christmas though...so maybe then.
