Two quick pics to share tonight. First, read last night's post. Did you do it? Seriously, do it! Okay, now continue.
Last night I tried to make a free-standing cabin cake like the cabin on Little House on the Prairie. Unfortunately, the prairie can be a dangerous place, and there was a freak tornado that destroyed that cabin. This picture shows the aftermath of the tornado that destroyed the cabin. (Do you like my costume? That's me transformed into Caroline Ingalls.)
After calling my insurance company and finding out that I'm not covered for freak fake tornado accidents that destroy horribly made cabin cakes, I came up with this one-dimensional cabin cake as a stand in for my daughter's birthday party. It's not what I was hoping for, but she liked it. Cake done, party over . . . clean up begins.
Craft on!

Ha, ha...hilarious! Those crazy freak tornado's! Your second cake turned out great, glad to hear the Little House Prairie party went well...Happy Birthday to Neriah!
Love the costume!
I think the 'one dimensional' cake is lovely, as I'm sure the cabin was, too.
Years ago I tried to make a 'pirate ship' cake for my son's birthday. I cut a round cake in half and put the two semi-circles together to form the hull. It lasted just long enough for a photo...then (like your fake hurricane)a freak 'perfect storm' must have gone through my kitchen, because it capsized.
It still tasted good, though--and isn't that what counts?
You make a very nice Caroline Ingalls, LOL!
BTW, live and learn...I never made another 'boat' cake, but if I did, I'd be sure to cut the rounded bottom so the cake would be flatter, LOL!
Oh Elizabeth, my mom could have written a very similar post the year I turned four. She made a darling cottage cake that collapsed just moments before the party! I remember it well. I think it was the last 3 dimensional cake she attempted!
@ Mom2fur - that pirate ship cake sounds like a tough cake to make. I chuckled a bit at your reference to a freak perfect storm. It's crazy how those tornados and perfect storms can wind up in our kitchens. :)
@ Sarah - You still remember that and you were only 4? So I can assume that Neriah will remember the year I failed to make the cabin cake she always wanted. :)
really cute love the outfit:)
This is actually one of hte nicest cakes I've seen for LHotP!
I didn't see any final birthday party post...is there one that I missed?
