tuesday's true confession: GUILT and a $65.00 GIVEAWAY

**This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks to everyone who entered!**

Someone once told me that there is good guilt and bad guilt.  Do you believe that?  I think I do.

Good guilt inspires me to make a meal for a sick friend when I have the time but would rather watch TV.  Good guilt inspires me to sit down with my children and play rather than spend time blogging.  Good guilt inspires me to put down the spoon after eating more than a few servings of ice cream right out of the container . . . not that I've ever done that.  ;)

Bad guilt makes me add one more commitment to an already over-committed week.  Bad guilt makes me feel doubt my abilities as a mom when I watch "the perfect mom" down the street who seems to do it all without breaking a sweat.  Bad guilt makes me hate my hips because they aren't the same width as they were pre-kids . . . or even pre-eating-ice-cream-out-of-the-container . . . not that I've ever done that.

And I confess that I'm having a pretty bad case of bad guilt right now because I have about 80 comments and e-mails in my in-box that I haven't replied to.  This comments and e-mails have accumulated since my daughter's surgery last week.  With everything that went on last week, I just couldn't keep up.  I tried.  I gave it my best effort.  I sent replies to many of you, but today reality set in . . . it's just not going to happen.  If you commented to a blog post last week and have yet to receive a reply from me . . . I'm sorry to say you won't.  (I WILL, however, respond to e-mails or comments that asked questions that need a reply.)

And I feel guilty about that because if you take the time to comment, I want to take the time to reply.  I love reading your comments . . . each comment inspires me and spurs me on towards my goal.

So today I'm hoping to help myself feel a little less guilty by offering you the opportunity to win a really great giveaway for a $65.00 gift code from CSN stores.

By now you've heard of CSN stores because they have giveaways going on everywhere.  They have so many different departments.  Right now I'm obsessed with browsing the shoe department because I really need a new pair of shoes for fall.  I would never actually purchase that pretty pink shoe . . . the guilt of buying a pair of shoes that I would never wear would be too much for me. :)  But it sure is fun to look!

What department could you spend hours browsing through?

Giveaway Guidelines
So . . . here's how you can be the winner of a gift code giveaway for $65.00 to any of CSN's 200 stores . . . that's right . . . you could have $65.00 to spend from the comfort of your computer.  Woohoo!

For your first entry (everyone must do this first before other entries will be counted):
-become a new follower and tell me that you are in a comment OR
-be a follower already and tell me that you are in a comment

For two extra entries (leave 2 comments and include a link to your blog in one of the comments):
-throw my button up on your blog until this give-away ends or blog about this giveaway in a post.

For one extra entry each (please leave a comment for each entry):
-tell me if you believe that there are such things as good guilt and bad guilt
-visit CSN and tell me what department you could spend hours browsing through
-tweet about this giveaway with a link
-put a link to this giveaway up in your Facebook status
-follow twelve crafts till Christmas on Twitter
-"like" twelve crafts till Christmas on Facebook

This gives each person 9 possible chances to win.  Woohoo!

Give-away ends Tuesday, August 25, 2010 at 11:59 PM (central standard time) . . . four months till Christmas!

Thanks again soooooo much for reading and entering . . .

You really shouldn't feel guilty about not responding to comments via email... I confess that I never have! I don't even know how I would get the email addresses. But I treasure every single one. Just as I know you do!

I don't really think there's such a thing as good guilt. Not really. x

but I do get the bad guilt too when I really am doing enough but can't shake off the feeling I'm not.

There is such thing as bad and good guilt! Bad guilt is when you do something wrong and feel guilty, good guilt is guilt about things we know we shouldn't have done, but makes us do the better thing in the future, like use up your stash before buy another yard or so of fabric even if it is really cute!

brooke said...

I completely agree with your ideas of good guilt and bad guilt. Good guilt can motivate you to do something that is good and that is possible (i.e. NOT feeling bad-guilty about picking up every stray animal on the street, just feeling good-guilty enough to volunteer at the shelter once a week).

Unknown said...

I would absolutely spend hours in the shoe section... and then probably buy something in the kids or mens or home section so I wouldn't feel guilty about spending $$ on myself, for shoes...

PS - My previous comment gave the impression that I might volunteer at the local animal shelter. That is false. My sister does. She was my inspiration for that example. :)

Actually I don't believe in good guilt and bad guilt- there a good things we'd all like to do but I think we have to be realistic about the amount of hours in the day and accept ourselves for prioritising. When my mother-in-law points out the weeds in my garden I say "It's on the list but it's not a priority for me right now" (when actually the better response would be "Here's the weeding fork, thanks for offering!").

Good guilt is the kind that leads you to action--whether it is to apologize to someone for something or turn to the Lord in true repentance. Bad guilt is the kind that immobilizes you and eats away at you. It may be real or imagined. It will destroy you if not dealt with.

ruthaw_1974@yahoo.com

sucor said...

My thoughts on guilt: Good guilt motivates us to do the right thing. Bad guilt is time wasted worrying and feeling bad about something we did or didn't do, but it is too late to change the outcome.

I just found you today! I subscribed through Google reader and will enjoy getting your craft ideas regularly now. Of course I'd like new shoes, too, so I'll have to try to "up" my chances!

Karen said...

The CSN department I would choose is probably the home decor, because I need to update lots of things in my home! However, my favorite section would really be the baby/kids section just because it is so fun to look at things for my grand children.

Karen said...

My take on the good guilt/bad guilt: I think "good guilt" is probably not guilt at all, but rather the Holy Spirit prompting you to into action. Bad guilt is when we feel that we have let others down or have not lived up to our own expectations. Bad guilt is usually a self-inflicted wound. A remedy for this is to realize that "others" do not always know how much is on your plate that day/week, so it is not necessary to feel guilty in saying,"No" to a request that will cause you to be unable to meet existing obligations or provide the care your family needs, etc.
