Someone once told me that there is good guilt and bad guilt. Do you believe that? I think I do.
Good guilt inspires me to make a meal for a sick friend when I have the time but would rather watch TV. Good guilt inspires me to sit down with my children and play rather than spend time blogging. Good guilt inspires me to put down the spoon after eating more than a few servings of ice cream right out of the container . . . not that I've ever done that. ;)
Bad guilt makes me add one more commitment to an already over-committed week. Bad guilt makes me feel doubt my abilities as a mom when I watch "the perfect mom" down the street who seems to do it all without breaking a sweat. Bad guilt makes me hate my hips because they aren't the same width as they were pre-kids . . . or even pre-eating-ice-cream-out-of-the-container . . . not that I've ever done that.
And I confess that I'm having a pretty bad case of bad guilt right now because I have about 80 comments and e-mails in my in-box that I haven't replied to. This comments and e-mails have accumulated since my daughter's surgery last week. With everything that went on last week, I just couldn't keep up. I tried. I gave it my best effort. I sent replies to many of you, but today reality set in . . . it's just not going to happen. If you commented to a blog post last week and have yet to receive a reply from me . . . I'm sorry to say you won't. (I WILL, however, respond to e-mails or comments that asked questions that need a reply.)
And I feel guilty about that because if you take the time to comment, I want to take the time to reply. I love reading your comments . . . each comment inspires me and spurs me on towards my goal.
So today I'm hoping to help myself feel a little less guilty by offering you the opportunity to win a really great giveaway for a $65.00 gift code from CSN stores.
By now you've heard of CSN stores because they have giveaways going on everywhere. They have so many different departments. Right now I'm obsessed with browsing the shoe department because I really need a new pair of shoes for fall. I would never actually purchase that pretty pink shoe . . . the guilt of buying a pair of shoes that I would never wear would be too much for me. :) But it sure is fun to look!
What department could you spend hours browsing through?

You really shouldn't feel guilty about not responding to comments via email... I confess that I never have! I don't even know how I would get the email addresses. But I treasure every single one. Just as I know you do!
I don't really think there's such a thing as good guilt. Not really. x

For the CSN browsing question - I'm all about a new purse right now. I love the little wristlets they have. Seriously cute.
And I "like" Twelve Crafts on Facebook. Could they have come up with a goofier way to say that? I don't know. But anyway - I like getting your updates on FB :)

I completely believe in good guilt and bad guilt.
I pretty much get the good guilt for the same reasons.. what should I be doing rather than what I am currently doing, etc..
but I do get the bad guilt too when I really am doing enough but can't shake off the feeling I'm not.
I could spend hours browsing all of them but right now I am really interested in their play tents!
I liked you and this on facebook!

Oh guilt is a hard one! I agree with you on the good guilt and bad guilt. I struggle with the mommmy guilt, even though I know I shouldn't, it's still hard. Definitely something I'm working on and thankfully God is helping me see past it and enjoy my girls and my time away from them. It's healthy for all of us!! :)

Oh, I definitely believe in good and bad guilt. Too much guilt can drive a person insane, sometimes if you feel guilt it's your conscience telling you to shape up, other times, maybe you're just pushing yourself way too much.

There is such thing as bad and good guilt! Bad guilt is when you do something wrong and feel guilty, good guilt is guilt about things we know we shouldn't have done, but makes us do the better thing in the future, like use up your stash before buy another yard or so of fabric even if it is really cute!
I could so spend hours in the baby and kids department I am currently putting together the new baby's room that will be here on november 1st!

I do believe in good and bad guilt. Bad guilt can get you really down on yourself and stagnate progress, while "good" can motivate you!
I could browse the cookware dept for hours for sure!

There is such a thing as good guilt bad guilt though good guilt is most often not something others would grudge you for but more something that just bothers you...like if I by myself something while shopping I usually take it back b.c I feel like I should have bought the kids something instead
I'm a follower!!! and love your blog
www.shabbychicthriftyunique.blogspot.com
I would spend hours in the brows by room section for home decor...actually I already have many times : o S
I am a follower - one of your firsts! :)
I completely agree about the different types of guilt. The problem is sometimes we give into the bad guilt more then we should!
I think it probably goes without saying that I am a follower. :)
I could spend hours in the lighting department! I really want a chandelier for Lily's room. The lighting in the parsonage is less then to be desired!
(1) I have your button and I blogged about the giveaway: http://iamjustlu.blogspot.com/2010/08/usability-101-giveaway.html
(2) button and blog
I completely agree with your ideas of good guilt and bad guilt. Good guilt can motivate you to do something that is good and that is possible (i.e. NOT feeling bad-guilty about picking up every stray animal on the street, just feeling good-guilty enough to volunteer at the shelter once a week).
I would absolutely spend hours in the shoe section... and then probably buy something in the kids or mens or home section so I wouldn't feel guilty about spending $$ on myself, for shoes...
PS - My previous comment gave the impression that I might volunteer at the local animal shelter. That is false. My sister does. She was my inspiration for that example. :)
And I "like" ya on Facebook.
I like Twelve Crafts on FB!
I love your blog and I am now a follower!! Will you being doing this next year??? I don't want the fun to end...
entry #2
I believe there are good guilt/bad guilt! I also believe that there is no way you could reply to every comment :-) so don't be so hard on yourself!
I likey you on facebook :-)
Which dept?
ummmmm all of them! lol!
I just spent hours looking at cookware.com. I could probably spend even more time at their baby and kids store.
I think guilt is only helpful if it aids you in returning to your right path. Otherwise, don't bother with it.
I'm a follower already!
I could look at the baby/kids section all day! I love buying things for my kids!
Definitely good guilt and bad guilt. Bad guilt keeps you from going forward whereas good guilt spurs you to do better.
I'm a follower!
If I won the gift giveaway I would spend it either in the housewares department on an inexpensive food processor, or towards some new silverware!
I'm a follower. Thanks for the opportunity to win such a great prize!

Absolutely there are both good & bad guilt! Good guilt gets your butt in gear to do the right thing. Bad guilt makes you fess up when you've done the wrong thing, or at least think twice about doing it again.
I'm a follower on Facebook now too!
I'd probably head straight to the shoe department & be lucky to get out for under the $65 amount!

I could browse through the CSN baby and kids section for days!
I'm already a follower!
Actually I don't believe in good guilt and bad guilt- there a good things we'd all like to do but I think we have to be realistic about the amount of hours in the day and accept ourselves for prioritising. When my mother-in-law points out the weeds in my garden I say "It's on the list but it's not a priority for me right now" (when actually the better response would be "Here's the weeding fork, thanks for offering!").
I could spend a day in the babies and kids dept.!

Good guilt is the kind that leads you to action--whether it is to apologize to someone for something or turn to the Lord in true repentance. Bad guilt is the kind that immobilizes you and eats away at you. It may be real or imagined. It will destroy you if not dealt with.
ruthaw_1974@yahoo.com
My thoughts on guilt: Good guilt motivates us to do the right thing. Bad guilt is time wasted worrying and feeling bad about something we did or didn't do, but it is too late to change the outcome.
What department at CSN could I spend hours in? Anything baby! We have a new granddaughter arriving in September!
I follow :)
I love the shoe department as well! But home decor is easily as enjoyable to browse!
I'm a follower!!
And, YES, I believe in good guilt and bad guilt. But I think good guilt is more like our conscience telling us what we should do...keeps us in check!
I am an "old" follower!
I think guilt is guilt...how we choose to react to that feeling is our decision. Sometimes guilt is productive, sometimes we use it to make ourselves feel bad. I think with what you have had going on I wouldn't worry about answering every comment! :)
I would spend long hours in the home decor section of CSN

I just found you today! I subscribed through Google reader and will enjoy getting your craft ideas regularly now. Of course I'd like new shoes, too, so I'll have to try to "up" my chances!
The CSN department I would choose is probably the home decor, because I need to update lots of things in my home! However, my favorite section would really be the baby/kids section just because it is so fun to look at things for my grand children.
My take on the good guilt/bad guilt: I think "good guilt" is probably not guilt at all, but rather the Holy Spirit prompting you to into action. Bad guilt is when we feel that we have let others down or have not lived up to our own expectations. Bad guilt is usually a self-inflicted wound. A remedy for this is to realize that "others" do not always know how much is on your plate that day/week, so it is not necessary to feel guilty in saying,"No" to a request that will cause you to be unable to meet existing obligations or provide the care your family needs, etc.
Hey, I'm already a follower & would love to be entered in this giveaway!!

I'm a follower and wish I had found your blog a long time ago--I LOVE IT!
I would probably spend a gift certificate in the Home Improvement section. Old house=constant home improvement! But, I think I'd have to really think about the Home Decor section, too since that is improving my home as well!
I've never thought about good/bad guilt until you talked about it. All guilt makes me feel bad so I loved your perspective on it!!
I am a happy follower of your delightful blog and I'd looove to win!! CSN is just the greatest!! Thank you for the chance *crosses fingers*
Have a great weekend
