super easy pretend and play diaper wipes

I was thinking that I would just flash you the pics of my pretend and play diaper bag accessories and that would be that.

Uhm . . . I was wrong.

After my post yesterday, I received a semi-surprising number of very kind e-mails demanding requesting that I post a how-to for each of the accessories. ;)  (Have I mentioned how much I continue to grow in fondness for all of you who read this blog?  Your e-mails were all so sweet.  Truth is that even if just one of you had asked, I would have done it.  You know I can't resist a request for a tutorial!)

You are going to love how seriously easy this is.  You could probably make it much fancier, but considering how much time I have already put into this obsession . . . well, I had to make at least one thing quick and simple.

Here's what you need:
-felt or fleece (I used felt for one and fleece for the other.  Both worked great!)
-flannel
-straight pins, pinking shears, sewing machine

Here's what you do:
1)  Use pinking shears to cut a 7 x 9 inch (or whatever size) rectangle out of the felt or fleece you've chosen.

2)  Tri-fold fleece so that the two ends meet up with a slight overlap in the center.  Pin along both ends.

3)  Sew both ends shut.

4)  Use pinking shears to cut 6 to 8 rectangles from the flannel.  I made my rectangle wipes 5 x 7 inches in size.

5)  Now, here's the deal . . . your wipes will probably never get like this again because once your child starts playing with these, she or he will just shove them in and out of the wipe case.  However, I did take the time to fold these wipes overlapping one another so that one pops up when the top wipe is pulled out.  Or you can simply fold them individually and stack them on top of each other with the top wipe sticking out.

Yep, it's that easy!!  Cute and easy . . . what could be better?  Other pretend and play diaper bag accessories will be done in the next few days . . . so stay tuned!

Craft on!

I love this. Nothing would thrill my baby more than having a never-ending supply of cloth to pull out of a container. (He has completely rearranged my fabric stash for me 4 times this week!) Wonder if I can make one of these with enough wipes to outlast his attention span...

I'm not sure what this means for either of us, but I didn't ask because I knew you'd post it eventually. ;) Thanks!

I really love this idea. My baby loves the wipes case and she would be thrilled to have one of her own. I might have to make more wipes because she'll burn through them so fast- I'll forever be "re-loading" them.

I don't sew - at all LOL But I wish I did. My little granddaughter has a strange adversion to diaper wipes. She isn't quite 2 but she loves her babies (dolls). She will wait till no one is looking and grab those wipe containers and use every single one either wiping her face or her baby's face! This would be a great diversion! -Karen

The simplest tutorials are often the best. You're right that making the wipes up is easy-peasy but none of us had thought to do it until you showed us how! Thank you for this rockin' series. I can't wait to get sewing and share my results on my blog.
