I'm not going to tell you who or what I voted for because that's not the point.
The point is that I confess that our political system baffles me. Well, it's not the system that baffles me so much as it is the people involved in the system. I think the general idea of a multi-party democratic system is wonderful, but somewhere along the way we all began polluting the system.
We began calling those who don't agree with our political beliefs names . . . horrible names. We began drawing lines in the sand that set sister against brother and friend and against friend. We began talking . . . sometimes shouting . . . so much at the other side that we stopped listening. We began condoning political ads that are embarrassing to our country rather than informative and helpful additions to political campaigns.
So I confess that I don't get it . . . I don't get why we can't just all get along and work together in the effort to make this country a better place . . .
. . . so I voted today . . .
and I hope that the people I voted for can put aside labels and partisan politics so that my children can have a future filled with promise.
What about you . . . did you vote today?
Confess on!

Our state allows early voting, so we actually voted last week. I agree that we are off from the path that the founders began. When you read history, when political parties realized they could buy votes with jobs etc. things started to go down hill. It's such a mess. So, yes, I voted in hopes that we can have a future for our children.
Great post. I agree it's gotten quite baffling and I don't like at all where politics have been heading. Yep, I voted, early, like your previous commenter.
Thanks for this post! I totally agree and hate that politicals is an off limits topic. Usually when it does come up, it's the same old rhetoric. I plan on voting a later today.
Well I didn't vote today but I will vote on january for our president's election and by the way things going we will have a government's election after that as well! :P
Althought we have 900 years (almost) as a country, the truth is we just have democracy for 36 years now. But I'm afraid we have the same problems with the politicians here...it's probably human nature, I guess...
I think we make a mistake in thinking that this sort of vitriol is new. Adams and Jefferson were certainly not civil to each other during their campaign; poor Dolly Madison had to put up with implications she had slept with half of Senate to get them to support her husband; the discourse is the same, but the method of delivery has changed.
Just got home from voting. :) There was actually a line this time - something we haven't seen in a couple of years. So that was encouraging.
I agree with you - I don't get it either. But I keep voting in the hopes that things will change. Great post!
thanks so so so much for your amazing tutorial that is up today! People love it!
I voted. Reading your comments, I thought you had read my mind. :-) I just don't get it. Regardless of party affiliation, because it's not just one party or candidate but many seem to be so ..... well... let me just say that I don't know when it became okay to be so divisive and downright awful sometimes!! And wonder, is it possible to change this? Just thinking..........
Yep, I voted and if I could then not one person can give any excuse to me why they didn't. I was up early, very early, hubby drove me to the surgery center where I then had two different surgeries on my right hand, then once I came out of happy land, we left and drove to Starbucks for coffee since I was in NEEEED of my coffee......then we went and voted. Of course this was a feat in itself since my right hand is in a cast and totally unusable so I cannot sign my name nor fill in those tiny ovals for my choices. lol I got it done though.
