I make butter tarts every year without fail! It's been our family tradition since we were tiny. My mom used to make them every year and they are to die for! She had her recipe that was totally top secret and now that she is gone, I am one of the keepers of the recipe. She swore each of her daughters (x5) to secrecy and we all honour her wishes (even if it is kind of quirky!) My brother is the only boy and although he has the recipe, he doesn't cook. Since he works around the world and could be anywhere at Christmas, I always make and send him a batch of Mom's tarts so he can feel like she is near and he has a little bit of home.
So, I just told my husband to go on your site to find your pillow pet tutorial and he's like, "aren't those your cookies?" I'm like, uh, yeah, they are! Thanks for showing off my butterflies...getting ready to make a bunch next week for a cookie exchange...always have to make extra because they are the first cookies to GO! :) We'll let you know how the pillow pet thing goes...my husband is making on for Autumn! What a MAN! :)
Thanks for the feature! I love reading about other's traditions, and hope you will continue the sharing!
Thank you for sharing I might have to start making these cookies they look yum!!
At Thanksgiving, someone in my family always makes "dressing balls".. and yes, they are exactly what they sound like. They are dressing in the form of balls. I've never heard or seen anyone else do this but they have to be made a certain way with certain ingredients to be the family recipe. My cousin makes our great grandmother's potato rolls. And I make chocolate covered candies - anything from pretzels, marshmallows, peeps, peanuts, oreos, etc. I do a big tray with homemade cookies, chocolate covered treats, and chocolate candies as well (made in various Christmas molds). And I almost forgot that someone makes my grandmother's cream corn. I guess we have a lot of traditions. Now I'm looking forward to new ones with my daughter... I've been thinking about Advent calenders, cookie exchanges, etc...
Yum!! These look so good!
Every year we do a cookie assortment - and I try and change it up so there are new ones. But we do the chocolate dipped pretzels every year because they are so quick and easy and hello. Chocolate. ;)
